Alchemy

Flames were the only light in the small hut, blistering heat wavering around a large metal cauldron sat alone at the center of the room. Footsteps were visible in layers of dust around the cauldron, but the room was silent for all but the crackling of the dying fire.   Alchemy is one of the more common forms of Magic, especially among the common experiences; due to having the closest connection to healing and medicine, Alchemy is often found in rural towns and cities where Common Sorcerers will pose as religious healers to heal the weak.   Among academic sorcerers in the Sorcerer's Federation of Sel, Alchemy is common, though mainly among Wielding Sorcerers, as it has a variety of practical applications for increasing the Magic output of a Sorcerer.

Source and Casting

Sources

The element sources of Alchemy are each used in different ways and with different uses. Because of this, each element is used for different reasons by different classifications of sorcerers.   Though nature and plants are often grouped with the power of Earth with all other forms of Magic, nature holds a different place in Alchemy. The distinction boils down to the fact that all Magic in Alchemy is sourced from nature. This means that plants and animal remains that are used in Alchemy are required. The elements are really just ways to alter the outcome of the spell.

Fire

Fire is the most common form of element in Alchemy, as it is common for Alchemy to be used to create potions or pastes by boiling down different, secondary, elements. Only a small sample of spells in Alchemy are formed without fire.   Flames have two main purposes when involved in spells. Fire is both a strengthening agent, capable of infusing the result with more energy. This is often explained by more scientific Alchemical Sorcerers in that the flames separate the Magical energy from the physical element and burn the waste products, allowing a more purified result. Fire can, additionally, finish a spell; finishing a spell is what Alchemical Sorcerers call when a spell is, essentially, locked so that the Magic in it is trapped and contained.

Water

Water is known for being able to temporarily contain the magic of a spell and alter the form it takes. It is nearly as common as fire, though there are a select few spells that use fire without water.   Water's main purpose serves to hold a spell until it is finished, though -- depending on the form in which the spell is meant to take -- can mean that water is not used. The adhesion and cohesion of water are what allows it to have a temporary hold, generally around a month, on the Magic in a spell. The form in which a spell is finished will generally depend on the levels of water included.
Gaseous spells
The rarest form of any Alchemical Spell, gaseous spells -- will usually use the largest amounts of water and fire to be turned to gas

Liquid and Paste
These forms of spells use slightly smaller amounts of water, allowing the natural content of the spell to hold; the amount needed for various degrees of liquidity varies based on the natural content of the spell

Solid Spells
Soild spells are usually more common than gaseous spells while still being exceedingly rare; few spells need to be taken in a solid form, though those that do must be made without water to achieve a solid form
