Heracles Class Special Operations Corvette
The Heracles Class is a variant of the Hermes Class Rapid Transport Corvette, building on the high acceleration, low mass design of the Hermes Class to support special operations missions throughout the solar system. The main difference between the Hermes and the Heracles class is an increase in weapons, electronic warfare equipment, and sensors equipment, as well as the ability to carry Skiffs and a Landing Capsule to transport special forces to and from the ship. In addition to the Hermes Class' base CQDS armament, the Heracles class sports several low profile missile pods that can be loaded with ship to ship or ship to surface missiles.
The most common task for a Heracles class is to deploy a team of TASA Special Aerospace Service operators to a remote location in a relatively fast timeframe. The ship remains in the vicinity to provide fire support, intelligence, and electronic warfare for the team. Upon mission completion, the Heracles can transport the team back home faster than most other ships can pursue.
The Heracles Class is designed to be virtually indistinguishable from a Hermes Class at a distance, capitalizing on the prevalence of the Hermes Class in the TASA inventory for VIP transport, courier missions, and rescue and retrieval operations. It would not be immediately clear to an outside observer whether the ship was on a military mission. Still, for more overt operations, the Heracles class can be outfitted with additional armor or radar absorbing panels at the expense of additional mass.
