Irena Chen-Meyer

Irena Chen-Meyer was a survivor of World War 3 and a member of Luna's Lucky Seven.
Irena was a Chinese-American colonist at Tranquility Base prior to the war. Her experience with both American and Chinese culture allowed her to play the pivotal role of mediator between the two groups of survivors.
When the fighting broke out in Tranquility Base, Irena led a group of civilian colonists to relative safety away from the fight. It was there that Lee Hsu stumbled upon Irena and her group. Irena used her fluency in Mandarin to communicate with Hsu and reach an understanding.
After the battle had ended, Irena and Hsu consolidated the survivors within Tranquility Base, American and Chinese alike. They agreed to work together for survival, though some were hesitant to work with the enemies who had destroyed their home and killed their loved ones. Irena used Hsu, who had essentially deserted to protect her group, as an example of a foundation of trust and humanity that could be built upon.
When it became clear that they would have to abandon Tranquility Base and seek help from Chang'e City, Irena took charge of the Tranquility Base survivors who traveled to the Chinese colony for help. She and Hsu reached out to the Chairman, hoping that the fact that there were Chinese among the survivors might persuade him to open their doors.
When the Lunar survivors were forced to cull their numbers to conserve resources, Irena was one of the eight selected to remain alive, becoming one of the seven Lunar colonists to ultimately survive World War 3. Irena acted as the defacto leader of the Seven by bridging both of the surviving cultures. She worked closely with Hsu, developing a romantic relationship with him as time went on.
Before rescue, Hsu and Irena would have children together - the second couple among the Seven to do so. Due to a number of complications, the labor was almost fatal to Irena, and Medical Specialist Stefan Belic burnt through almost all of their available medical supplies just keeping her alive. Irena pulled through, giving birth to twins, a boy and girl. She and Hsu decided to compromise and name each of their children according to the corresponding parent's traditional naming scheme. Hsu named their son Lee Ming, while Irena named their daughter Yue Chen-Meyer. Irena decided to stay on Luna to raise their children and pursue a role in leadership and diplomacy for the next wave of Lunar colonies built upon the ashes of Tranquility Base and Chang'e City.
