Castelaur
Castelaur is a castle located in the far end of the great city of Sang-Fond. Nearly two centuries old, it is inhabited by King Jean IV de Fortern, the main branch of his dynasty, as well as various officials and servants. It is the political seat of Fortern.
The castle, made for the most part of bright granite rocks, has many towers, courtyards, corridors, rooms and secret compartments as it kept growing over the years. It owes its name to the golden glow its roof produces at dawn, a purposeful and charming feature.
Purpose / Function
Not so much guarding the capital as protecting the kings against uprisings and invasion.
Alterations
Continuously altered and expanded by successive rulers following the improved living conditions and standards of luxury that came from interaction with foreign cultures. The modifications often aiming to serving as a counter to the The Ebony Castle in the Keratos Empire's Capital, Tal Shoth.
Architecture
The walls of the inner keep are built out of thick and large granite stones, extracted from the nearby coasline cliffs. They provide a base from which the castle kept growing over the years, growing more complex as new techniques were made, including Earth MAgic to facilitate the work. Dense wood bought from Dansenoix adorns the roofs of most of the towers whose roofs are shaped into pickets and lacquered so as to reflect the morning sun.
Defenses
Multiple lines of fortifications were made, now numbering around 4 in total ignoring the keep's defenses themselves. The outer-most walls now defend a portion of the city's households.
History
While a castle already existed in the middle of Sang-Fond, an order for construction came around the middle of the fourth Imperialcentury, built in preparation against the possibility of an Imperial offensive by the paranoid but nonetheless correct King of the time. The construction came at a time of great unrest as the Francia Empire had collapsed and the nobles bickered for the scraps that remained. Seen as a waste of money, the efforts to build it were slow.
It was destroyed 8 years into its construction during the battle which took place there in 372, 6 years after the start of the Eternal Conquest.
