Barracuda

Island south of Isadore. Nominally a possession of Ottovilla, though the Ottovillan royal governor possessed nothing but a plantation and a castle, and has long since given up all control of the place. Like San Marcos, it is generally kind of open city, though its history, as the stronghold of Madame LaForge the pirate queen has left it in shambles. COntrol is contested by the remnants of the pirates who controlled the port, by occupying forces sent from Isadore (and ultimately Vinar), supplemented by Pallas, Ottovilla and the Kingdom, and by the sense that this is more open for the taking than other islands, encouraging intrigues. Nothing is settled, as of 1615. The hinterland here is similar to San Marcos: plantations, run as independent fiefdoms by warlords, protected by mercenaries. Other than the Ottovillan governor, these are not associated with foreign, legitimate powers, for the most part. There is also a much stronger eastern flavor to it - there are tow or three large plantations owing what allegiance they owe to Al Aben or Arcaba.

Geography

Usual mix of volcanic mountains, low wetlands, jungles and so on.

History

Stronghold of Madame LaForge, the pirate queen, who drove the pirate wars from 1606-1611 or so, by Madame LaForge. She was finally beaten and disappeared, and the city has tried to instill the kind of practical peace found in San Marcos, without a lot of success.
