Personal history
Alayana was born to a human commoner mother in Fairesoir. As a child, her mother told her that her father was an Elven merchant named Valern from the Southern Sects. Alayana was an inquisitive and ambitious child, with a craving for knowledge and a life greater than what she was destined for. At the age of 15, Alayana snuck aboard an Elven merchant vessel and found passage to Halenth. Upon her discovery, she explained her reasons for travelling south and asked for aid in finding her father. As fate would have it, one of the crew members of the merchant vessel had sailed with her father, recognising the physical similarities in his half elven daughter.
Alayana learned that not only was her father not a merchant, but that he was a Corsair captain and a the fourth born son of King Valendil of Halentha. Upon arrival in Halenth, she learnt that Valern had been killed by Lorithan warriors during an incursion into Lorinth. She attempted to claim the mantle of her father, but was resisted by the Halenthan nobles her saw her as a bastard and a threat to their monopoly on Elven power. However, a retinue of Halenthan Corsairs swore themselves into her service, still feeling loyalty to her late father. Alayana found herself at the lead of a flotilla of three Corsair ships and their associated crews.
After spending five years in Halenth raiding shipping in the Gold Sea and accumulating a name for herself, the noble families of Halenth attempted to have her assassinated. Her personal bodyguard slew the assassin as his blade was mere inches from Alayana's throat. She immediatly departed, sailing north with her fleet back to Kingdom of Farraige. Upon her return, she found the power of the House of Eleras at an all time low, with riots in the streets and an extremely volitile political environment.
Alayana exploited the situation to her advantage, building a popular movement around herself as the rightful successor of King Valendil, culminating in the Coup of 165IE. Alayana's personal retinue of Corsairs as well as hundreds of Farragian supporters stormed castle Fairsoir, murdering the House of Eleras in their beds. The following morning, Alayana was crowned Valendeira, Queen of Farraige.
In 201IE, Valendeira still rules over Farraige, and has spent the last few decades steadily building a professional army trained and led by her Halenthan Corsairs, as well as a military industry to support it. The traditionally decadent Farraigian upper class have suffered some damage to their standard of living leading to some discontent. Their complaints were addressed by Valendeira appealing to the masses of the peasantry, claiming that the decadent merchant families are not willing to sacrifice for the cause of Elven Restoration, leading to the Night of Daggers.
