Chained Forge

Halema'uma'u Crater, Kilauea Volcano (1887) by Jules Tavernier, public domain
There is a wide swatch of volcanic activity alongside the western coast of Ostelliach, characterized by the Dreadswirl to the south, Anathema inland, and visible for miles and miles around, the Chained Forge volcano and island of the same name.   Chained Forge is not necessarily an active threat to the region, with no recorded eruptions in recent times (even with the tumultuous seismic activity of the region increasing in the years since The Breaking) but this is of only marginal reassurance to those on the western coast. It could be argued that the looming threat of the volcanic mountain on the distant skyline is enough to keep Carrier's Crest a large town at best, for even without a rumble in its throat, the giant is formiddable to see.

Geography

The entire span of the island the volcano inhabits is largely free of plants and certainly of animals, frozen waves of long-cooled lava flows or shiny obsidian sheets with no purchase for roots or ponds. The southern portion of the island is particularly flattened by the whispered breaths of the nearby Dreadswirl, while the entrance to the Scorched Floes mine system is located, surprisingly, just north of the mountain itself.

Natural Resources

Volcanic rock is mined in the Scorched Floes mine system below the mountain's semi-dormant edge. There, obsidian, pumice, volcanic ash, and even metals like gold, zinc, and silver can be pulled from the sweating earth.
