Gotthikós

An Eastern-fringe variant of Imperial Gothic, Gotthikós is enriched - although many Magi Archaeolinguistae consider "debased" more accurate (and certainly more theologically-acceptable) - with Xenos vocabulary and grammar via contact with the various polyglot species of the T'au Empire. The result is a lingua franca trading language much-used in the Eastern Fringe prior to the Damocles Crusade.   The Order of Bethany makes extensive use of Gotthikós in its ceremonies and prayers, and has - somewhat perversely - adopted this human-xenos creole as a holy tongue.

Author's Notes

Gotthikós is represented by pseudo-Greek (in the same way High Gothic is represented by pseudo-Latin), although the language would be unintelligible to modern speakers. The name of the language itself is the Greek word for "Gothic". Greek was chosen because of its common use by Oriental Christians (as opposed to the Latin Crusaders) during the historical period Outremer is based on, whose culture has been used as a parallel for Imperial settlements interacting with the T'au (who are used as a parallel for Muslims).
