Lord Paramount of the Dragontide Vanguard
Qualifications
To be given the honour of the rank of Lord Paramount one must have been:
- A soilder in Dragontides army or navy
- Have held a position of authority equating to Captain or higher
- Have shown exemplary service to the crown throughout their career
- Been serving for atleast 15 years
Appointment
Upon the death of the previous Lord Paramount the monarch is presented with nominations from the various high ranking members of the army and navy. An officer cannot nominate themselves, and is not required to nominate anyone, but very rarely does an officer abstain. The Monarch then reads through each candidates service record, carefully choosing up to 5. These five are then brought to the capital city of The Citadel and a tourney is held. Each nominee is put through their paces in strength, agility, archery, tactics and information gathering, each being awarded points for their performances. The two candidates who score highest are then invited to a private 1-1 dinner with the Monarch, where they discuss their career, life, family and a great deal many other things, each candidate talking with the monarch about different topics, and no one candidate has ever given a clear answer to what was discussed.
The Monarch then chooses between the two, raising one up as Lord Paramount, and the other as to General. Each appointment is unique and depends on the Monarch, the first appointment was gifted a new sword by King August 1st, with the latest being granted legitimancy of their family name.
Responsibilities
The main duty and responsibility of the Lord Paramount is the protection of the Monarch and royal family, and must be willing to lay down their life in service to this duty. Beyond that they are responsible for overseeing both the army and naval officers, acting as the Monarch minister of war.
Benefits
The Lord Paramount is granted a region of land just outside the city limits of The Citadel, to act as their home, and are given servants to maintain the land and house. They are also bequeathed a portion the wealth gathered by their predecessor, anything not left to the previous Lord Paramounts family is passed on to the successor. They are given a healthy salary and granted tithes from visiting nobles from around Dragontide, and other countries - the posistion of Lord Paramount is seen as almost as important as that of the Monarch, and keeping the Lord Paramount friendly to their causes is always seen as a boon, even if the Lord Paramount acts as impartially as possible.
