Civilization and Culture
History
Giants trace their origins to the early days of creation when Aedar, responding to the Titans' call for subjects, created beings similar to them but smaller and mortal. These were the first giants, crafted to be ruled by the Titans.
For eons, the Titans ruled over the giants with an iron fist. As time passed, the giants began to praise the Titans as saviors and creators, inflating the Titans' pride to the point where they questioned even Aedar's authority.
This hubris led to the Fall of the Titans, a great war between the Titans and the Belain (gods). The conflict raged for an untold time until the Titans were ultimately defeated. Aedar, unwilling to see his creations perish despite their betrayal, imprisoned the Titans in a realm called Tartarus for eternity.
The giants, as descendants of the Titans, were not spared from punishment. Aedar stripped them of their immortality and condemned them to a cycle of rebirth. In this cycle, their knowledge and skills would be lost, and they were destined to reappear in various forms and sizes, embodying both wisdom and folly.
This divine judgment fundamentally altered giant society and culture. Once a unified race under the Titans' rule, giants diversified into various subspecies, each adapting to different environments and developing unique traits. This diversity likely includes storm giants, cloud giants, fire giants, frost giants, stone giants, and hill giants, among others.
Despite their punishment, giants retain an innate connection to the primordial forces of creation, often manifesting as control over elements or natural phenomena. Their societies, while no longer united under Titan rule, often reflect a reverence for strength, both physical and magical.
Some giants may seek to reclaim their lost glory, while others have fully embraced their new roles in the world. Their relationships with other races are complex, shaped by their history as both rulers and the ruled, and their current status as powerful but mortal beings.
Giant ruins and artifacts from the time of Titan rule are likely scattered across Nórëlondë, serving as reminders of their ancient heritage and occasionally as sources of conflict with other races seeking to harness their power.
