Scrivener Bartleby

Bartleby is some kind of ink spirit Scrivener who works in the Stargazer Library. Eerie and inhuman, its drawn out unnatural speech and ever present white grin against a vague impression of other facial features in the viscous ink are highly unsettling. The mere prospect of having to engage with Bartleby is enough to dissuade the sensible noble from using the Stargazer Library unless they really have no other choice.

Motivation

At first glance Bartleby seems to have one purpose, and that is to manage the library to which it was summoned. Much of its understanding of the plane of existence that it now finds itself bound to is through library terms, and it does not seem to understand the difference between patron and vermin. Greater goals are hinted at, however, as it seems to have an insatiable fervor for information.

Scrivener Nippers: Nippers considers himself to be a sort of kinfolk of Bartleby, since they were formed to serve the same purpose. Although it is unconfirmed whether Bartleby returns the sentiment, they exchange data with each other and their relationship is "genial": pleasant and friendly (although also a pun).

Mannerisms

Bartleby has a creepy habit of clicking the pen-nibs at the end of its fingers together. Perhaps it is deliberately trying to make others uncomfortable, perhaps making others uncomfortable is merely its nature.
