The Doorstep

The Doorstep is the realm of Worgoth, the Wolf at the Door, the gnoll deity of desperation, poverty, and hunger. Worgians believe that the Doorstep metaphysically adjoins the Garden Beyond the Stars on the basis that most walled gardens have doors, and if there is a door, then there must be a Doorstep.   The concept of the Wolf at the Door describes the struggle of those living paycheck to paycheck. Those whose dire circumstances teeter on the brink of destitution are said to have the Wolf at the Door. Although, according to Worgian tradition, the Wolf can be found at any door, there are some things that keep the Wolf at bay, most notably silver and gold, since the wealthy can more easily buy their way out of distress.   Likewise, the paradisical Garden is a realm of abundance and fulfillment, which wards against the Wolf's hungry maw. Worgoth's holy text, The Cry in the Dark, hints that since it would be difficult for someone within the Garden to not have their needs easily met, in practice Worgoth does not have any real footing within the Garden itself.   Having already been through multiple Apocalypses, it is likely that the Doorstep is a desolate post-apocalyptic realm, which would fit with Worgoth's areas of concern. When Connie Furr and Hugo Dargent used Angel Dust to access Worgoth and retrieve the Starving Fang shard of God-Soul, they fought a projection of Worgoth inside the deity's enormous mouth, and therefore did not have a proper view of the rest of the Doorstep realm. When describing the incident to Castor Stargazer later, Hugo referred to the area as the Tooth Dimension in reference to Worgoth's multiple layers of teeth.
