The Failed

The powerful, egotistical first creations of the Primordials, most of the Failed, and in particular the largest and most powerful, are confined to The Underworld, unable to use the only exit to the rest of reality. A few, through one means or another, occasionally pass through the walls of their prison, exiting into the real world in various locations across the universe. Typically single, unique organisms, most of these escapees retire to the quietest parts of the cosmos to avoid attention from the gods, content merely to be free from the confines of their prison. A few may attach themselves to worlds, setting themselves up as gods or demons to the inhabitants there, but continue to keep a low profile.
On rare occasions, Failed released from the Underworld may seek to make an impression on the universe they have been sequestered from, displaying the behaviour that got them imprisoned in the first place. The largest and most powerful can cause massive amounts of destruction, and the gods themselves are required to leave their devotions on Pande and travel the universe to deal with them, lest this chaos reach their own corner of reality. Thankfully, such puissant beings are exceedingly rare, and none have escaped in many long eons.
A few of the Failed are not unique creatures, and appear to follow a set form. How they reproducing is not known, and it can only be assumed that there is some form of ecosystem with the Underworld that allows such a thing to occur. These creatures, whilst still powerful in comparison to humans, are far smaller and manageable, and their escapes tend to happen on populated worlds, leading to some hypothesis that there is a link between the existence of sentient creatures and a thinning of the Underworld walls. On Pande, such incidents are mercifully rare, but frequent enough that Imperial scholars have noted a number of creature-types that occur more than others.
