Crypt of the Everflame Part 2

General Summary

Waking up the next day, Inva, Nels and Warful made their way further into the Crypt of the Everflame. Heading north they came to a room filled with pillars and three levers. Exploring the room they fell into a few pit traps, before finally deciding to abandon the secrets of the room. Using the huge shields once held by the wood golem, they managed to get past the pillar which was firing arrows without harm, ending up in a room with some bleeding skeletons, but managed to take care of them. This room had a set of stairs leading further into the depths of the earth.
At the bottom of the stairs, they found themselves in a circular chamber with multiple paths ahead of them. Choosing the western passage they came to a room which smelled of decay. There they fought disease ridden zombies, which they took care of without too much issue. Once through this room they found another with a long pool of water which showed them horrific scenes of an undead version of themselves attacking their companions. This caused Nels and Warful to become overcome with fear, fleeing from the chamber for a short time until they could regain control of themselves. Inva found this very fascinating and confusing.
The next room they entered had a ceiling filled with sleeping bats. Deciding to move quietly, they snuck through this room into the hallway beyond. This hallway took a couple of turns before opening into a large chamber with a bridge crossing a deep pit. On the other side of the bridge a pair of statues faced the party. Despite trying to check for traps, Nels and Warful both triggered the trap. Nels was able to slip past the statues to the other side, while Warful was thrown down into the pit. When Inva tried to cross, she too was thrown down into the pit. Luckily, Nels was already safe on the other side with his handy rope and was able to get them up to safety. They took the large double doors into the huge chamber beyond. They saw the eternal flame burning above the tomb of Kassel, the town hero. Then a voice spoke to them from the darkness. Speaking of how they would make good additions to his army of the dead. A force of skeletons attacked them, led by a an intelligent skeleton, wielding a mighty sword. They put up a valiant stand at the doors of this room, but unfortunately, they just could not withstand the fury of the undead. Nels was nearly cut down by the skeletal champion, and fled for safety to the other side of the chasm in the previous room. Unfortunately, he did not make the jump to clear the pressure plate and was thrown to his death, forty feet into a pit. Warful was cut down by the skeletons while trying to flee and only Inva managed, just barely, to escape. She narrowly avoided Nels' fate with the trap, then made noise to wake the hordes of bats down the hall while the skeletal champion gave chase. Slamming the door to the room of bats, she managed to escape without being chased by the skeletons anymore.
