Death Watch

Those to whom the Sovereign gives authority must be obeyed absolutely. They are issued Holy Writs of Authority that dictate the extent of their domain and power and are signed with the Arcane Seal of the Sovereign Himself.   Members of the Death Watch are tasked with the retrieval and return of the unclaimed dead within or without the borders of the Sovereignty to their proper resting place within a settlement.
  • It is punishable by imprisonment up to and including death for interfering with a Death Watch member engaging in their duty.
  • A Death Watch member may recruit anyone within the Sovereignty who does not hold a government title to help transport a corpse for up to 1 mile.
  • Members can expect to receive compensation for unclaimed corpses according to the following:
  • Medium or smaller corpses: 50 gp
    Large: 100 gp
    Huge: 200 gp
    Gargantuan: 500 gp
    Colossal: 1,000 gp (or more)
  • Nonmembers can expect that retrieval/return of corpses to the Watch will grant them half the compensation of a member.
  • Any citizen may become a member with the approval of a Sheriff or higher authority. A member who goes one (1) year without retrieval of at least one corpse may be removed from membership.
  • A Death Watch member’s role is highly specialized, context-specific, and does not require leading a government department. Thus they do not have title bonuses or the requirement to pay downtime.
