Lights Outside Fjordhaven

General Summary

Covak was looking for a way to help the people of Fjordhaven when he overheard people talking about strange lights, gathering a party to investigate, he quickly ventured north of the city in hopes of finding their source. With some direction, the party made their way towards where the lights had last been seen, finding three springloaded chests sitting empty in an open field near a scorch mark. Finding them immovable the party chose to stake them out. After a few fruitless hours of waiting into the night, the party finally saw them. First, a red flare shot high into the night sky, then an orange light, followed finally by a yellow one, all far in the distance. With renewed interest, the party chose to head for the yellow light first.

The party found little of interest waiting for them there. A scorch mark like they had seen before and a post with hooks on it. Four of which were empty but the fifth and final held a bag, which the party quickly determined to be full of vials of some sort of drug. With no real answers and a strange noise like a crack of thunder coming from the direction of the orange light piquing the party's curiosity, they headed for the orange light. On the way finding a dead and partially eaten horse on the road, its rider unconscious dying beside it. After some simple first aid to stabilize the man he was thrown onto the back of one of the party's horses so they could continue. Another crack of thunder with no lightning to accompany it sounded from up ahead, and soon they saw a strange gnome on horseback wielding a large rifle seemingly engaged in combat with a cheetah of all things! Finding the cheetah wasn't openly hostile towards them but the man was screaming something about being after his winnings, the party chose to make swift work of the gnome. His horse abandoning him, the gnome soon lay dying in the dirt as the party attempted to talk to the cheetah, finding it could understand them but not speak, the party asked what they should do with the bags they had. One from the post and two now claimed from the dead gnome. The cheetah then continued their journey towards the orange light.

There the party found another post, and after exchanging their bags of drugs for sacks of gold hanging on the post, they followed the cheetah towards the red light, and into a cave. Inside the cave were four chests, all nearly identical to the three they had seen in the field, leading them to believe these were somehow related! But as they approached, one of the chests sprang to life, and attempted to consume one of the group! Quickly dispatching the strange creature, the group found that while one of the chests was open and empty, two more still held a strange token, one silver, and one copper. And with the cheetah's guidance, the party exchanged one bag of gold for the token inside, causing the chests to snap close and lock with the offered gold inside. Still unsure of the use for the tokens, the party spoke more with the cheetah about the nature of what they had just participated in. And with some roundabout deductions, discovering that the cheetah could elaborate further if they could just get it to water! Heading outside meaning to do so though, they found their horses along with the unconscious man they'd been carrying missing! And besides the tracks, they'd made on the way in, only a few hoofprints giving them an idea for a direction. With a little bit of searching, they were unable to find their horses but did find the man. Choosing to carry him along while they got the cheetah to water.

The closest source they knew of was the river out near Falcon's Hollow. Heading north the party braved the forest, and eventually found their way to the river! The cheetah leaping in and disappearing under the gentle current. Feeling duped, the party turned to leave when suddenly a merman emerged from the river, introducing himself simply as Fin. After some interrogation the party learned Fin was responsible for setting up the strange game, in the interest of rewarding people for drug running for an organization he called the Haven's Triad. Though he wouldn't say much else about the operation, he did assure the party that the strange coins they'd obtained would be quite useful if they ever wished to do business with the Haven's Triad. With that Fin taking his leave, leaving the party to discuss what to do with the coins. Despite all of Milo's protests the group eventually decided to hand over the coins and the man who'd been participating in the drug-running over to the Kingdom of Fjordhaven's authorities and claim bounties for each.
