Unathyr
(a.k.a. Mother of the Garden)
Essences: Concrete
among the most powerful mages of any age, Unathyr was born to a nomadic tribe in The Srem, south of Edesenkol. much of the details of her early life are unknown, but at some point she developed extremely powerful concrete-magic.
she created both Highwater and Unathyr's Garden to provide a home for her people. during her lifespan and for some time afterwards, the garden was a powerful kingdom.
The Faith of Unathyr's Garden grew up around personal worship of her in the years following her death, and is based around the cleaning and purifying aspects of water as well as worship of certain Revered ancestors, which itself grew out of pre-existing ancestor-worship traditions.
Questions:
- Unathyr's relatives/children - are any of them Revered?
Divine Domains
Unathyr is the eldest and greatest of The Revered, a group of selected individuals who lived great and edifying lives and who are now prayed to for help in their particular domains. Unathyr is, of course, something of a catch-all that can be prayed to for any reason, but her particular domains are:
- water
- farming, food and harvest
- order, peace and harmony
- building and construction
Holy Books & Codes
each Revered has a list of Quotes, which are considered to be illuminating; collections of these quotes, either memorised or in written form, form the core tenets of the faith. Unathyr's list has hundreds of entries.
there is some controversy between different sects as to who is and isn't Revered, and what Quotes can be attributed to each Revered.
there are daily ablution laws, with sand or dust acceptable if there's no water, as well as watersign rites.
other notable Revered:
- Sowl The Gyrist: an early Turf-Troll missionary who ended up synthesising Gyrism and Unathyr-worship. their watersign is a double spiral.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
the aqueduct, water vessel, and wheat-sheaf are all symbols of Unathyr specifically, as well as the faith overall.
the most common "logo" for the religion is a simplified illustration of an aqueduct:

This is also Unathyr's Watersign. drawing Watersigns - simple shapes made by pouring water in lines onto sand or dirt - is the principal form of devotion/prayer/invocation for worshippers, and each Revered has at least one Watersign used to beseech them.
Watersign rills are incorporated into the floors of rich Unathyr worshippers' homes and into temples.
Watersigns
- Yeshenha's watersign - often worn as a pendant by sailors and other travellers, and poured before starting a water journey.
- the Cinquefoil - the most serious and profane watersign, used to mark a thing specifically as unhallowed.
- double spiral - watersign of Sowl the Gyrist.
