Great Karn Empire
The Great Karn Empire, also known as Karn Empire, or in the karnate tongue "Karn Kal Mire", is the governing body for the largest group of Karn on Parllos. Four out of every five Karn live under the rule of the xenophobic empire, with membership being tightly controlled and rarely, if ever, extended to members of another species.
History
Unification
The Karn Empire emerged from the unification of three karn tribal nations living in the Elasayn Basin. To the east, living in the rivers and streams were the Hazzat karn, the southern and eastern rim of Thyre Sea Lake was home to the Dav, then there were the inhabitants of Karn's Well, who called themselves the Vosh karn before the empire.
First Marsh Coast War
After the cataclysm of that started the Ash Age the waters of Thyre Lake became acidic adn choked with ash, causing the Karn to need to migrate to the rivers and lands east of the lake. The karn built a new city on the northern edges of Erynthol forest, which the previously little known volokatchen saw as an encrouchment on their terrritory. Notably, the malgrove, who's land the karn had actually wandered onto, were accepting of karn presence within the forest. In the year 22 the volokatchen attacked, officially starting the First Marsh Coast War and hammering the already reduced karn population. The volokatchen started in smaller settlements to the north and pushed their way south toward the new capitol of Pshcholet. Despite feirce resistence by the karn the volokatchen had the city surrounded within three years and it is said that during the seige so many volokatchen filled the River Ka that the waters themselves stopped flowing but didnt lower. They attacked enmasse and tore the city to rubble.
Reunification
The war led to the destruction of the Old Empire and split the now diminished karn people into factions based on ancient, long defunct tribal ties. As the ash drained from Thyre Lake the karn moved back into the lake and thier original rivier homes, and began to built back to thier former glory. Then another empire is born after a war between the Dav and the Hazzat allowed the Vosh to intervene and defeat both armies. Soon after nearly 100 years, in 123, the Great Karn Empire was founded and touted as a reforging of old glory.
Territories
The area controlled by the Great Karn Empire encompasses all of Thyre Sea Lake and the surrounding shores, as well as most of the river systems in the north of the Marsh Coast. The karn people see the lake as their ancestral home, beliving thier origins to be within the waters.
Religion
There is no structured religion for members of the Karn Empire, but as a species the Karn are known to worship ancestors and hold historical figures as semi-deities.
Trade & Transport
Being a highly xenophobic species, the Karn do very little trading business with outside cultures; however they still do the occasional deal with others, selling weapons and armor fashioned from molted carapace.
