Spring 496 cont 2 for 1 special

General Summary

The Easter Feast in Sarum is upon us. The guests include:
  • Prince Cynric, son of King Cerdic of Wessex. With him are 25 knights and Sir Aldwin, Kendric's grandfather.
  • Praetor Syagrius, who has come to call himself the Silver Centurion. He has a crew of Saxons, Picts, Irish and Cmyri knights.
  • Sir Blaines with a contingent of Silchester knights.
  • Sir Duach from Warminster.
Before the feast, Countess Ellen calls us for a meeting. She tells us she not only wants the Castle DeVises back, but Sparrowhawk as well.   Alister / Floridas speak to Llygad, who mentions a blind spot in the castle's walls where he used to sneak out. Alister also sees Sir Calder of Barford whisper something in Llygad's ears. Gerin talks to Leuan about Blains -- learning that he is a snake, and not to be trusted. Kendric goes to the Roman camp to speak with Emoric. He sees a young Saxon boy of about 11 who looks vaguely familiar, but moves on. Emoric says they plan to wreck havoc in Britain before returning to Frankia. But Emoric still desires Gwiona, and plans to win her back.

Court

  • At court, peasants speak of a bandit named Teregud terrorizing a 'triangle' in SW Salisbury. Floridas sends Deian to investigate.
  • Prince Cynric of Wessex comes forward and speaks of his father Cerdic, who is the son of Vortigern, former High King of Britain whom first invited the Saxons to Britain. He says Cerdic's ambition is to rule all of Britain, treating Saxons and Britains as equals. He also speaks of being Gwessi (?) but I have no idea what that means. Cynric invites us to a feast to speak with his father and offers himself as a prisoner until then.
  • Praetor Syagrius says he has no ill will towards Salisbury and seeks a mutual alliance. He speaks of Llud's Hall, a royal treasury he seeks to raid. He would like help and would split the spoils.
  • Lastly, Sir Blaines steps forward saying that a Silchester knight is the rightful lord of Monxton.

  -Feast ends-

Next day

Neddig and Clarembaut have a chat about God. Alistair gets into it with Calder Jenna goes to Kendric and is convinced to speak with Emoric Ysbail tells Floridas the key to DeVises is the water supply. Clarembaut gives an impassioned speech to Gwiona.

The Duel

For all the hype, it amounts to nothing as Emoric cancels the duel (no doubt because of Jenna). Everyone applauds the decision.

Meeting with Countess Ellen

Monxton The Countess decides to pay the church to say the Silchester's knight is invalid and Sir Gollwyn shall be enfeoffed. Teregud Clarembaut presents a battle tactic to the knights charged with their pursuit. DeVises The Countess agrees to Duach's proposal, saying DeVises will secure her promise to marry, and Sparrowhawk will be her wedding present. 18 knights (including Llygad and Calder) are sent. Wessex To avoid angering them, Jenna is sent (along with Leuan and Geren) as a gesture of good will. Rydychan Tabled, but the conversation between Pertoines and Floridas holds.

Llud's Hall

Our information gathering tells us of a group of knights who ride out every morning from the Keep. We ambush them and take their colors. Under the 'cover' of sunset and in disguise, the gates are opened for us, opening the way for our attack. We are outnumber, but our Inhospitable and Dishonorable actions pave the way for our victory. We claim the castle for Salisbury, giving us a castle in the Northeast. 6 Salisbury knights perish, but a horde of 750 librum is found -- Salisbury claiming 375. 11 knights who surrendered join us. Back in Sarum, Countess Ellen awards us 20 librum each.   We return to our keeps for Winter.
