Fourth Wine War
Summary
After a series of lengthy disputes over tariffs and ship flagging, the Duchy of Cord Ea Lorin unilaterally declared war on a newly-formed but powerful Free City coalition led by the cities of Pesborough and Cabrone to seize control over their merchant fleet. After nearly 3 years of open conflict at sea, the Duchy of Ulana entered the war due to the extended period when no wine had been exported.Upon Ulana's entrance into the war, many more battles were fought across northern Sinderlan and near Cord Ea Turin. This decisively limited all civilian traffic across the Northern Passage, which led to the Rimwalker Trade Company out of Crush to throw its private military into the conflict in an attempt to defend its investments. Other smaller corporations made official alliances with Rimewalker Trade and entered the war shortly after. The Sline Group, Crush Imports, Obsidian Stonecutters' Guild, and Stretch Investments were some of the more prominent companies to enter the war, against the protestations of the Consulate government. This only led to further escalation until the King of Shattered Glass ordered an immediate ceasefire of the forces and sent in the King's Bulwark to enforce the edict.
The war ended with the Treaty of Cabrone in which the Kingdom agreed to pay a massive war indemnity to the various Free Cities that were involved. This indemnity was paid almost exclusively in wine, nearly emptying half the wine reserves of Ulana. The King immediately ordered the Ducal thrones of both Ulana and Cord Ea Lorin be abdicated to the next of kin for their leadership failure. The Rimwalker Trade Company went bankrupt shortly after, sending ruptures through the Consulate economy. These shockwaves led to the other companies who had joined the war to collapse entirely or become highly diminished on the regional stage. Many Consulate citizens employed by these companies lost their livelihood, many becoming destitute, seeking out new employment in the Kingdom, or leaving Sinderlan altogether.
