Helos of Broken Bow

Third Augur of the Final Kingdom

Holder of the Deck of Fate and the Teth Lantern, Third Augur Helos is a high ranking member of the Final Kingdom's Augury. A Kobold born to poor parents in Broken Bow's Rubbletown District, he showed an aptitude for magic at a young age despite his diagnosis with Kestrel Syndrome, a rare wasting sickness. He eventually was recruited by the Augury, in which he rose through the ranks rapidly, gaining the favor of the King of the Harvest and achieving the rank of Third Augur by age 22. With his life expectancy under 30 years due to his condition, the speed of his ascension to such a rank is considered nothing short of staggering. He is famed in high social circles of Sinderlan, primarily as a keen reader of the auspices and as a diplomat to foreign entities.

Early Life

Helos was hatched in the Rubbletown District of the Final Kingdom's Fortress City, Broken Bow into a poor family relying on the basic grain dole provided by the Kingdom. Despite their hardships, the family believed strongly in the destiny fate had in store for them, and in the Monarch's part in guiding them to that fate. Early in his life, Helos exhibited magical aptitude, being able to cast basic cantrips at age 5 with no instruction. Later, he received an early diagnosis with Kestrel Syndrome at age 15, estimating his life to be roughly half over. After the diagnosis, his family urged him to visit the Augur of Broken Bow to consult them as to how long he had left. Famously, he was not given a definitive answer, and rather was told he would do great things with his time left. He was recruited into the Augury that day, after which he began a meteoric rise through its hierarchy.

Life as an Augur

After his recruitment, the young Helos was invigorated with enthusiasm for his future and how much he was foretold to contribute. After learning the sacred spells of Augury, he began his career in divining fates and reading auspices. As assistant to the Augur of Broken Bow, he managed to foretell major events such as the Roil Cyclone of 9039, which nearly destroyed a great number of coastal towns of Cord Ea Lorin. Thanks to his prediction, the citizens were fully evacuated inland, resulting in virtually no casualties. This event, predicted with such precision, allowed Helos to be granted the rank of Augur after just one year of service.   Assigned to the town of Wikneth in Basentia in 9040, Helos managed to assist local farmers in optimizing their crops to such a degree that their output is believed to still being fed upon from the larders in the Great Famine of 9047. The most well publicized exploit of Helos' came when an archaeology team from the Didacian Consulate's Gelbezza University of Natural Philosophy came to conduct a dig outside of Wikneth. To pay respect to local custom, the team visited Helos for an augury reading, where he told them exactly where to dig. Just one day into the dig, the team found a destroyed Augur House. Upon investigation, it was identified as the fabled House of the Fated Choice, a long-lost Augur House which housed the Deck of Fate, believed to have been lost in the Verstonian Earthquake of 4452. The next day, the team found the Deck of Fate miraculously intact. As the ranking Augur of the town, Helos was given the Deck, which held the power to severely alter fates. The recovery of the ancient relic was hailed as a sign of Helos' unparalleled talents.   Helos' success led him to be summoned to Throne by the King of the Harvest in 9041, where he and the king allegedly became fast friends. Almost immediately, Helos was granted the rank of Third Augur of Throne, a massively prestigious rank and one of the Monarch's most trusted advisory positions. Since then, Helos has been charged with heading the Augur House known as the House of the Fifth Eon in Throne's Amber Ring where he manages many admirative functions of the Kingdom's massive Augury apparatus. Additionally, he serves as part of a permanent delegation the Consulate. His badge of office is a lesser known relic, the Teth Lantern, which always emanates a light described as akin to a sunrise. It is rumored that he knows the exact moment of his imminent death, and is working diligently to serve his Kingdom until that very moment.

Involvement With the Partycrashers

Helos. however, is rarely seen in Throne as his duties call him elsewhere. He regularly conducts negotiations with the Consulate in conjunction with his governmental and political counterparts. He was attending the government function with ambassador Lusanka in Vortex which was attacked by the rogue Eladrin Linthea and her siblings. There, he encountered the adventuring group that would eventually take the name "The Partycrashers." Impressed with their resolve and effectiveness, Helos approached one of the members, Miloš of Warwikhamp. He expressed his condolences to Milos regarding the recent occupation of Warwikhamp and also told him that he was doing the Kingdom proud through his actions.   Weeks later, Helos sent Avalanche Thronegard, a member of the King's Bulwark, to deliver the Partycrashers a summons to Throne to be honored for their efforts in saving the event-goers from their assailants.
