Smells of Wet Goat Report
General Summary
Previously: Wyvern Threat
The party attempts to join their dream correspondance course, only for Herdyr to be caught by a curse left by the death god, Myrkul, Lord of Bones. She is pursued in her dream-like state by zombie hands reaching from the ground. As an elf, she is able to long-rest without dreaming, which allows her a chance to renew her spells and cast a remove curse spell on herself.
The others gather knowledge and harvest a good deal of material from the wyverns, and even the dead goat. They also raid the nest for some wyvern eggs and loot from a hobgoblin's corpse.
After this, they set off again, travelling for some time without incident.
Later, a troll guarding a bridge across a brook attempted to stand up to 200 giant goats. It was trampled to mush, but would eventually regenerate. Once awake again, it discovered an intimidatingly written note plastered to itself and decided to try its luck elsewhere.
Nearing the Phandalin area, the gnomish goatherder Wigglehoof spotted heavy rainclouds approaching and asked the party to seek shelter for the most vulnerable of her flock. They found a suitable cave, but discovered more, deeper inside. Another chamber with an array of crystals growing around the walls seemed to share a link to the outer plane of order, Mechanus. A strange mechanical humanoid figure appears to have burst from the crystal's surface in a breach of the planar boundaries. Seemingly lifeless or unconscious, Wigglehoof took the creature with her to show to her mechanically minded cousin, who lives near Phandalin.
As this mystery came to a finish, the thunderstorm in full swing, the Party realise that the goats outside are under attack. They exit the cave to find three programmed air elementals (aka Invisible Stalkers) slashing at any living thing they see, with spilt blood spiralling into the sky powering the ritual to summon Gorthok, the Thunder Boar.
