The Ether Spindle

The Ether Spindle is a scar in space. It's around 10 miles wide and stretches up into the sky as far as the eye can see. The area directly around the Spindle is warped and twisted, with ruins of old buildings appearing in different configurations every time a different group explores the space. It seems, though, that the Spindle is defending itself- the terrain and creatures get increasingly deadly as people get closer. No-one has ever reached it as far as anyone can tell.

Geography

Mostly, the area around the Ether Spindle is flat and contains many ruined buildings, but sometimes there are huge mountains or deep valleys. As the whole area changes day-to-day it is impossible to define the geography beyond "mostly flat-ish".

Fauna & Flora

There are occasional forests around the Spindle, mostly the trees there are warped and imposing and often-times carnivorous. The creatures that seem to be generated by the terrain itself range from enchanted animals, undead hordes, ravening dragons or eldrich abominations. Not all of the creatures are hostile, but all seem to have a singular purpose- prevent anyone from getting to the Ether Spindle itself.

Natural Resources

The lands around the Ether Spindle have never been prospected; It's likely that anything growing there is too dangerous to be useful for most people; there is one resource everyone wants though: magic items. The space around the Spindle is littered with magic items of various strengths, most seem to be objects left behind after Ethergenesis, touched by the strange energies of that event. Some are objects of extreme power- the Artefacts. These items are highly prized by the Guilds and finding one usually elevates the finder to Guildmaster of a new guild built around that Artefact.
