A term coined by Frank Frank-Frank-Burger-Mundum-Canti, the Celestial Trial is a practice invoked when those who had committed grave crimes on a divine scale must be judged. In the mystical realm where legendary Pokémon reside, a solemn and awe-inspiring event takes place known as the Celestial Trial. This sacred gathering, orchestrated by the Pantheon, serves as the ultimate judgment for those who have been deemed threats to creation itself. The celestial courtroom, presided over by Reshiram and occasionally mediated by the gods of the Pantheon, unfolds as a cosmic spectacle that transcends mortal comprehension. This sometimes requires the Gods of the Pantheon to pass judgement in A----s's Giratina's stead.
The Celestial Trial is a divine process that seeks to maintain balance and order in the otherworldly dimensions inhabited by legendary Pokémon. When a being commits an offense of monumental proportions, the gods convene to pass judgment upon the transgressor. The accused is summoned to the ethereal courtroom, a celestial amphitheater suspended in the nebulous expanse between dimensions.

History

The Celestial Trial tradition has ancient origins deeply rooted in the creation of the Pokémon universe. As the pantheon of legendary Pokémon came into existence, the need for a mechanism to maintain balance and justice among these powerful beings became evident. The tradition evolved over the ages, shaped by pivotal events, cosmic shifts, and the dynamic interactions among the gods and legendary Pokémon.
While the exact details of the Celestial Trial's inception are contested, the first Trial appears to coincide with Giratina's banishment in Hisuian mythology. This has led to the belief that Giratina was the subject of the First Trial. Recent events have brought these claims into question, however.
As the Pantheon grew and life came to be, there emerged a need for method to address grave offenses on a cosmic scale became apparent. These responsibilities fell to a child of Arceus known simply as the Judicator. (Later retellings of myths involving a Celestial Trial place Reshiram as judge instead of the Judicator.)
In the present era, the Celestial Trial stands as a complex and highly ritualized event, drawing upon centuries of physical and cultural change. The Pantheon continues to rework the tradition in response to the changing dynamics of the universe, ensuring that the cosmic balance is maintained in the face of new challenges and emerging threats.
The most recent Trial is held between Darkrai and the Phalanx. This trial breaks from tradition, as instead of Reshiram, Giratina itself is presiding over the trial.

In times of ideological conflict with especially dire consequences, the Scales are used to judge the morality of all parties. The Weight of Darkness judges the moral convictions of a being, while the Burden of Light examines their tangible actions.

• At the center of the Celestial Trial stands The Judicator, created by Arceus for its unparalleled judgment. In its absence, the Vast White Pokemon, Reshiram is the primary judge for these celestial proceedings. Its role is to weigh the sins of the accused and determine the appropriate consequences for their actions. Reshiram's sense of justice and ability to see the logos of a being allows it to see through dishonesty or bias to find an Objective Truth and pass fair judgement.
