Fontaine

"Destined to see life beyond the shore"

Fontaine is a deeply historical region that believes heavily in the power of ancient legendary Pokemon, and doesn't respond well to those who don't respect the power and nature of Pokemon in general.
While all of the counties in this realm have something dedicated to at least one Legendary Pokemon, Fontaine takes its beliefs in their strength very seriously. Many well-kept temples dedicated to legendary Water-type Pokemon are located here, such as Suicune, Kyogre, Tapu Fini, Keldeo.
Fontaine is, by far, the home to the most Water-type Pokemon in Ransei.
The ruler of the Fontaine is Countess Ina.

Demographics

Out of all of Valentia, Fontaine definitely has the smallest population, as well as the highest median age in population. Many residence of Fontaine are either much older, and/or have taken vows of celibacy for the worship and maintenance of the several temples located all over the county.
Those who do raise families in Fontaine, however, are usually located towards the borders of the region closer its neighbors Ignis, Aurora, and Greenleaf. This is not only because of the location of sacred grounds, but because much of the midlands of Fontaine is either swampy or underwater entirely. Those who manage the shrines and temples often live on little raft huts on the water.

Government

Unlike other Vallite Counts, Fontaine's counts are religious leaders that are elected by its own council. The Vallite Monarch has the ability to veto the decision, and while this hasn't happened for several decades, it's led to situations where the Vallite Monarch takes direct control of Fontaine until a new Count is elected.
This is because that the Count of Fontaine is also a religious figure, usually a Shrine Maiden, that is not only dedicated to the wellbeing of Fontaine, but the oversight of all of its temples and ceremonies involving the legendary Water-type Pokemon.
