Reciprocal Hecatomb
Within the Hazfen Supremacy the great Burgeond often squabble over many small things. When these conflicts reach the point the death of a Burgeond this tradition is enacted.
The Burgeond who still lives must stand trial before the Synod of Wisdom. The trials purpose is to ascertain the details and justifications for the death of one of their holy leaders. If the Synod deems the conflict to be a worthy one, then the second step is enacted. If the kill is determined to be wasteful, beligerent, or otherwise petty then the Burgeond will be subject to Ficium's Glare for ten seconds. If they survive they are set free.
Should the trial move to the second step the living Burgeond is given a choice. The term Reciprocal Hecatomb usually refers to this step. The Burgoend may ban the ressurection of the Burgeond they kill at a price. Should they ban ressurection they must participate in the next Reciprocal Hecatomb event. If they do not ban the ressurection they pay no price and are otherwise free of any punishment.
All who participate must join the force of Burgeond who will stand against the Temple when it arrives in the Hazfen. This event often results in permanent detrement to the participating Burgeond. In the last nine hundred years, more than one out of three Burgoend who participated were killed and were unable to be ressurected.
The purpose of this price is to allow Burgeond to slay their brethern if needed. At the same time it will likely keep them dead. All the while contributing to the Hazfens 'sancitity.' This tradition is enacted for every Burgeond a Burgeond kills. Those pay the price multiple times particiapte in the same number of Temple passes. Burgoend who kill many of their siblings often gain harsher trials at the first step, as well as longer exposures to Ficiums glare if the trail goes against them.
Some refer to the Burgeond who fight the Temple's coming as the Hecatomb Arrow.
