Math Mathonwy

Math Mathonwy is the god of mathematics, magic, and knowledge. He was very recently chosen to rule Hades, not by election or through demonstrations of prowess but by a vote of the existing gods. In truth, Math is not a particularly impressive individual. His primary qualification was being one of the few residents of Hades who still possessed enough mental faculties to become ruler. The nature of Hades is such that most creatures slowly devolve over time and lose themselves, but Math is actually a yuggoloth who had previously been expelled from Gehenna, thus granting him immunity to the effects of his home plane.   Since none of the willing candidates for the position were particularly worthy of the role, the gods decided to pick someone that could easily be deposed later if the need arose. Math was specifically chosen to rule Hades because he suffers from a peculiar curse in which he must either be at war or rest his feet in the lap of a virgin. If neither of these conditions are met, his health will swiftly begin to deteriorate, eventually leading to death. This means math could be slain through simple isolation from his own followers.   Math is aware of all of this, and yet he accepted the position gladly. Despite his evil nature, Math is endowed with a youthful cheer and optimism. He quickly set about constructing a great library in which newly arrived souls could write down their important memories before losing them. He uses this knowledge to help form the basis for his ongoing research into the origins of magic itself, and will gladly share his knowledge with anyone that can teach him something new.
