Preservation Proclamation

The Preservation Proclamation is a treaty signed by all known living gods, with the exception of Mazu. The treaty was written in response to The Shattering, in which The multiverse was faced with an apocalypse and the gods spent all of their time fighting amongst themselves instead of saving the world. The treaty is imbued with all of the power of the gods who signed it, and so violators would be immediately destroyed by the combined might of the others without the need for any god to directly intervene. This ensures compliance to the treaty without having to resort to political machinations. The exact contents of the treaty are a closely guarded secret, but a few known terms are:
  • The gods cannot fight each other directly. Instead they must rely on their mortal followers
  • The gods cannot fight each other without just cause
  • The gods cannot fight each other without warning
  • In the event of an apocalypse, the gods must work together to preserve their combined survival, regardless of philosophical differences
  • The gods cannot interfere in the domains of other gods
In Session 25: The day of Blessings, Corellon Larethian said that this proclamation is deeply flawed, and is responsible for the current state of the world.  Supposedly the structure of the treaty relied on what turned out to be a false assumption that the gods were "the big fish in the pond".
