The nine hells

Despite the name, the Nine Hells is actually a single plane with nine layers. It serves as the afterlife for lawful evil beings, and is the home of devils. All travelers arrive in the layer of Avernus, and must traverse the remaining layers one at a time if they wish to reach the ruler Asmodeus.
By far the fastest way to make this journey is by sailing down the River Styx.
