River Styx
The river Styx is far from a normal river. It does not have water, but instead is an extremely wide and turbulent stream of liquefied souls. The souls consist mostly of those who have been punished by one of the archdukes, especially Dispater, but the river itself is owned by Asmodeus. Merely touching the foul liquid is enough to cause debilitating madness. Even worse, the liquid possesses some degree of sentience; often churning in unpredictable ways in an attempt to cause travelers to sink into the depths. Even with all of these dangers, ferrymen can still be found offering their services to those who wish to negotiate The nine hells quickly. This job bears an extremely short life expectancy.
