The Traveler

The Traveler is the god of chaos and change. He technically resides in Limbo, but he is away from home more often than not; choosing to simply wander the multiverse disguised as unassuming peasants and villagers. It is said that most mortals have met him at least once without even knowing it. His true form is that of a gray slaad, but this is not common knowledge.  The traveler has few formal teachings and no formal churches.  He is popular among traveling merchants, adventurers, sailors, bards, and other such sorts who spend most of their time away from home.

Personal history

The Traveler was one of many gods born during The Great Rebirth.  Unlike most of those, however, he was not created to serve any particular function, or to serve as the deity of any particular region.  Instead, a great deal of divine energy left over from The Shattering found its way to Limbo, where it mixed in with the various energies and matter roiling around in the plane of chaos.  Eventually, influenced by the minds of the planes residents, these energies settled and coalesced into The Traveler.  Interestingly, even though he was born along with the others, The Traveler was not actually worshiped as a god until over a hundred years later.  He was passing through Sigil when one of the local scholars realized that his marvelous shapeshifting powers and magical prowess stemmed from divine energies rather than arcane ones.  The scholar's name is now lost to history, however legend has it that this scholar was the one who gave the god the name "The Traveler".   The Traveler initially resisted this designation, but could no longer deny it when he was approached by The Bronze Prince and asked to sign the Preservation Proclamation.  Even once he had accepted his godhood, however, The Traveler felt no responsibility to assist any particular people.  Instead he simply did what he always did, traveled, and would occasionally stop to help anyone he met along the way.  In time he gained a modest following among travelers on every plane, who continue to worship through informal word of mouth even though the deity himself holds little interest in fostering a church.

Intellectual Characteristics

The Traveler, despite having no formal education whatsoever, is an extremely knowledgeable individual.  This is due to a natural curiosity of all things and also an extremely strong memory.  He is particularly knowledgeable about subjects regarding travel, from mundane things such as horseback riding and sailing to more arcane topics such as planar portals and teleportation.

Morality & Philosophy

The Traveler as an extremely arbitrary individual, possessing an innate sympathy for all viewpoints simultaneously, there is almost nothing that he would not accept as a reasonable course of action in any given situation.  This is not to say he is not opinionated, however.  He dislikes discrimination and hatred of all forms, and will just as easily jump up to defend an angel as he would a demon.  His opinions are often heavily swayed by where he is and whoever he has spoken to recently, but he will always be able to justify those opinions regardless.  He can frequently be found disguised as a barkeep and debating philosophy with random commoners.

Quotes & Catchphrases
No matter what you do, no matter where you go, no matter who you are, there will always be new surprises waiting for you.
A lot of people like to argue about right and wrong, but nobody can really agree what those words mean.  If you ask me, they probably don't mean anything at all.
I have learned a great many things, and yet it is still the most seemingly basic things that escape my understanding.  I can talk for hours on end about why we seek love, and yet I still could not rigorously define exactly what it is.  In some ways, I guess what I really want to know is what it means to know things.
I have talked to gods.  I have personally visited the courts of kings and queens.  I have personally walked the halls of the greatest libraries in the multiverse.  I have done all these things, and yet sometimes it is the lowly peasant who teaches me something new.  I think big people have a lot to learn from small people, and vice versa.
Your highness, I understand these are trying times, so let me teach you an excellent way to relieve stress.  I met a peasant once who could squirt beer out of his nose, and he was kind enough to teach me.  Here, let me show you how!
