Session 49: Third Key of the Endless World Report

General Summary

The session began at the end of the conflict against the morkoth Nim Karask, who had just escaped the characters by way of a Dimension Door. After a brief panic about the party suffocating, it ended with Nitt being Revivified by Baradin Godchosen, and Cathrine De Clair Antebellius casting Water Breathing on the party. Omen ei' Taure and Maro Rei 'Sky' left the others behind to search for Nim when Sky received a message from Nim telling them to take what they came for and begone, and as such, they found a metal box having been left behind containing what is likely the Third Key of the Endless World.   The party regrouped, took the key and headed back towards the surface and to Jagaduth. Once there, they headed outside the city before setting camp in a valley with a Tiny Hut, and after a tense downtime and rest, they managed to return to their home plane when Baradin had his magical capacity returned to him. Making plans for their next moves, the party decided to return to Zhou Wei, in order to head for the Sanctum of the Soul Dance, where the party had dealt with an order of evil monks some time previous. There, they would activate the Cube of Thávma in order to enter The Hollow.   After a short restocking of supplies, the party headed there, but on the way Arten Veronica Lagurdo recieved a vision during her sleep. In the vision, she had washed upon a shore of white sand. Beyond the shore, she could see lush trees and cliffside as well as distant buildings on the cliffs. Trotting towards Arten was a horse in deep red barding, and following it was a woman clad in an immaculate armor of ruby coloration. On the way, the woman spoke out: "I know you are eager to find me, but patience is an important part of a strategy". When the woman arrived to Arten, she took Arten's hand and said: "It is not yet your time to be here, but do not worry, I will await you on the day after The Gauntlet upon the Island of Providence." Before pushing Arten back into the water, after which Arten woke up. Arten then told the others of the vision, and Baradin noted that The Gauntlet likely refers to the holiday celebrated in dedication of Ogun, The Red Knight and Loric, The Earthbreaker by the same name. Omen also chimed in that the description of the landscape fit the description for the First Key of the Endless World according to their poem.   When they arrived they found three goblins had taken residence in the place. George, Mark, and Lark where three goblins that some members of the party had encountered and helped out early on in their adventure. George, the talker of the three, explained that after being helped in Chaires, the three goblins had ventured south before meeting a powerful elven figure that had trained them. They now had headed back northward, in order to travel and help people that they met. From the description, Omen gathered that the person who had trained the three was a powerful elf that belonged to his following of Silvanus, The Oakfather and wielded one of Silvanus' Artifacts, The Tree. The goblins then propsed to clean and guard the place while the characters would be gone, as a way to repay them for how the party had helped them before.   The party told the goblins not to enter the inner sanctum before entering it themselves and activating the Cube of Thávma and being shifted to the 3rd Layer: The Great Fault. There, the party found themselves in a cave with an opening towards the main hole of the layer. After a rest, they headed out and on the first day found a rope ladder, leading down, that they took with mixed success. Sky went first, simply using his innate powers over levitation and skill in climbing to go down. Baradin and Cathrine went second, with the help of Baradin's griffon, but when they attempted to get the griffon to go up and bring the others, if was affected by the Strains of Ascension, and started acting erratically. Eldon went third, but lost his grip over the ladder and fell, but managed to catch himself using The Sky, and artifact of Silvanus, to grow waxy wings, and then get to the rest of his companions. Next was Nitt, who use his climbing kit to secure himself, but the climb was taxing and he was exhausted upon reaching the end of the ladder. Finally was Arten and Omen, as well as Copernicus, Cathrine's Steel Defender. In order to guarantee their descent, Omen used his Staff of Insects to summon Giant Fireflies that lifted the three down.   On the day after, the party stumbled into an ancient tomb, holding semi-mummified bodies all holding their hands clasped as if they were praying. In the tomb, they also found some Madokajack, who the party mercilessly slaughtered before heading to the innermost tomb, where they found a larger tomb with a strange symbol, and a Scaled Umbrella. The session ended with the party leaving for an opening towards the main shaft from the tomb, when they heard the loud roaring of a Crimson Splitjaw charging towards them.
