Session 3: The Spider Report
General Summary
Issue #4
The Spider
The heroes find themselves battling a hoard of reanimated corpses in a graveyard. They seem to be rising from the grave due to the presence of mystical energy that flows from a mausoleum near the center of the graveyard. Directed by Archer, Zoetrope and Plastiq head towards the mausoleum while Darkhawk and Angel try to keep the corpses from getting out of the confines of the graveyard. Angel uses walls created by fungus while Darkhawk manages to make fences with branches and sticks to coral the walking dead. Zoetrope gets inside the mausoleum first as Plastiq and Archer are nearly overwhelmed by the grasping hands of the animated bodies. Inside, Zoetrope find a portal opened on the floor with three young students trapped and floating above it along with a mystic tome, a Ouija board and planchette. Zoetrope leaps into the field and is trapped floating as well but manage to get a hold of the book and the board, quickly neutralizing them. The planchette, on the other hand, escapes and begins to attack those trapped in the field. Archer arrives and, with assistance from Zoetrope, she shots and pins the planchette to the wall. The spell is broken, and the students and Zoetrope are released. The bodies return to their original graves once the spell ends. It turns out the students were just "messing around" with the book and Ouija board and didn't think anything would actually happen. Afterwards, the heroes are approached by Detective Johnathan Eaglesmith of the NYPD Magical Crimes Division. He informs the heroes that there has been an increase of these types of incidents with people getting their hands on dangerous mystic items. The students reveal they bought the items at a store called Eldritch Commodities. On their way to celebrate at Ground Central Station, Angel recalls the events of earlier in the evening when an old "friend" of Michael showed up at the house. While he was friendly, he did bring up that Michael owed him $5,000 and hinted that it was the reason Michael had stopped showing up to the recent street races. He also mentions that "Linda" misses him. The man leaves, refusing the offer of a check, reminding him that the next race is the following night. Joina comes in at the end of their conversation and wants to know what it was about, but Angel has no idea. Later, at Ground Central Station, Angel asks his comrades to help out with stopping the illegal street racing. While they are discussing the situation, Nancy Rothchild, server and part owner of the cafe, lets the heroes know that they are out of stock on a lot of items they usually carry. Deliveries aren't being made or are damaged or missing. Dark Hawk spots two, large, thug-like men standing outside the room and notices Nancy's body language. He, Angel and Zoetrope go to confront the thugs with Russian accents. Dark Angel tells them to step outside, but the fight erupts in the hall. The heroes throw the thugs out into the alleyway where, unfortunately, a van filled with several other thugs await them. While the fight starts to rage, Archer checks on the backgrounds of the thugs and finds there is a connection, unproven unfortunately, with Sebastian Ibanez, a crime lord also known as the Spider. During the fight, the heroes lose track of Nancy. Fearing the worst, Archer goes to look for her. Out in the alley, the heroes make short work of the thugs. However, one of the thugs tosses a device that releases a Baloren warrior! The heroes battle the fierce, demonic alien, defeating him finally by dropping the van on top of him. Plastiq senses an invisible person on the roof when she tries to sense where Nancy is. Giving chase, the invisible person leaps across the alley to the roof of the next building. Plastiq sees the roof access door as the only place her unseen prey could be. She stretches her hand to go under the door but is stunned by some sort of taser-like blast. Zoetrope finds that Nancy was just hiding in the kitchen. Dark Hawk takes the device the Baloren was held in. The Magical Crimes Division shows up to take the Baloren into custody while the police arrest the thugs. Archer spots a dog with an injured paw and heals it. Dark Hawk reads the dog's mind and learns that it had been subjected to lab testing, although the lab appears to have been destroyed.Character(s) interacted with
