The most heinous act of destruction the world had ever seen occurred in July of 1992 when the master villain, Dr. Destroyer, launched a massive supervillain attack on the city of Detroit while a device he created worked to pull a massive asteroid down on the city.

The most heinous act of destruction the world had ever seen occurred in July of 1992 when the master villain, Dr. Destroyer, launched a massive supervillain attack on the city of Detroit while a device he created worked to pull a massive asteroid down on the city. In what would become known as “the Battle of Detroit”, the heroes managed to stop the asteroid from slamming into the Earth, at the cost of Vanguard’s life, and destroy Dr. Destroyer’s asteroid attractor controls. Unfortunately, the villain fired an orbital cannon that obliterated his headquarters and most of the city of Detroit killing close to 60,000 citizens of Detroit and over 50 superheroes. It also appears that Dr. Destroyer is killed as well.   Detroit was rebuilt over the next seven years using the most advanced technology and concepts available. Eventually the city was renamed Millennium City.
