Alneyja Archipelago (ahl-NAY-ya ar-ki-PEL-a-go)
The Alnejya Archipelago is a group of islands located off the northeastern coast of the Great Continent. There are several dozen islands ranging from ten to almost a thousand square miles, but the largest island, Miklaneyja, is notably bigger than all the other islands combined.
The culture of the Alneyja Achipelago is very similar to medieval Scandinavia, with most settlements located along the coasts, using subsistence agriculture and lots of maritime activity. While a few islands are suitable for larger scale agriculture, the sparse resources on Miklaneyja and most of the other islands have resulted in extensive travel to, trade with, and even occasional settlement on the mainland, similar to that of the Vikings. At particularly hard times the scarcity has led to widespread marauding and violence, not just in the archipelago but along the mainland.
