Heir to the Golden Throne of Bartol

The Heir to the Golden Throne of Bartol is a title assigned by the King of Bartol to designated successor.   While in principle the title of Heir is open to anyone, it has almost exclusively been given to the oldest male child of the current ruler, or in a few cases, another male in the ruler's line. It has only been given to non-family members in a few cases, each due to extenuating circumstances.   While there is no formal law that the heir must be male, Bartolian tradition holds that daughters are not part of the Line of Succession, and most people in the Kingdom of Bartol do not know this is not in fact a legal requirement - including a number of people who should know better.
