Disappearances From Afar
When the first person disappeared, the people were not frightened. After all, the one who went missing was no good. Trouble. It was better for all that they were gone. But then another disappeared. And another. And soon the village was half empty and though they were all people that (privately) the rest had thought of as problems, the real fear was that the regular citizens would be next. But then no one else went missing. It all just...stopped.
And then reports came in. Other villages said the same thing. Maybe not as many, or maybe more. The same people, the ones that were outcasts or treated poorly. The ones no one else really cared about. They were simply there and then gone.
More information came forth. A woman had been seen, sitting or standing on the outskirts of the towns. And she had been watching, always watching with blood red eyes. Her hair was white, so pale it seemed to glow, to reflect the light of the stars above and shine. Her skin the same tone of the freshly fallen snow. And her red eyes, they followed and flickered, and rested on the ones who would then disappear the next day.
But there was nothing to be done with this information. She was gone, and so were they. The only thing to do was beware. Beware her, and be wary, for the ones who disappeared would reappear again, but changed. They would come in mist and wreak havoc before leaving in laughter. Those who treated them the most wrong would not wake up the next morning.
Beware the Vulpes Lagopus.
