Poleis

The capital city of Apis, Poleis is littered with temples to Ibu'fen, the streets sterile and clean, the houses spread apart and identical in design. Trees grow wild throughout the city, the only part of Poleis that seems to be allowed its own life. The Church of the Immortal Sorrow has a temple in the center of the city that also serves as housing for its most important priests and priestesses.

Demographics

High elves make up the population of the interior of the city, though as one approaches the outskirts and the temples to Ibu'fen turn to temples honoring Kalian there is a growing demographic of wood elves. Humans and other races also live in the city, but the elves often shun them as they do not fall under Ibu'fen's gift of life, and therefore not under her protection or safety.

Government

Poleis is governed more closely by the Church of the Immortal Sorrow than the rest of Apis, as most of the church have homes in the city.

History

Poleis was formed a few hundred years after the elves were first created, by the first generation to be born in Prodosía. Understanding that this cycle of life and death would be permanent, they decided to create a permanent home and thus Poleis was born.

Architecture

Though wildlife grows, well, wild in the open spaces in Poleis, the homes of the high elves and temples of Ibu'fen are kept orderly and sterile, keeping to the idea that nothing is owned by those living here, but rather being borrowed from Ibu'fen and thus being treated with the utmost repsect, which in the culture of Apis means keeping it as clean and orderly as possible. Most houses look the exact same as all elves were brought to life by Ibu'fen, and therfore there is no true difference between them.
The wood elves are a bit wilder, growing their homes from the same trees that Kalian grew them from and showing their respect that way, but as Ibu'fen brought them to life as well they try to honor her as well in similar ways.

Geography

Apis is plains, with small hills and several large forests. Poleis is on the outskirts of one forest, slightly extending into the woods itself, with two rivers running through the city. On the other side of Poleis is the lake from which the rivers originate, and that has another river which leads to the ocean, giving Poleis access to trade.

Natural Resources

Many rivers and lakes cross Apis, and several flow through Poleis as well. Elves are vegetarians, but they grow crops within the city and on the land outside.
