And after the first day in Infernus, on the first night, Zatan'na gazed up into the once more emptiness. And as he gazed, a great trail of light he witnessed running across the blackness until it collided with the Plane, leaving a beacon of light shining upwards as if beckoning him.
Hotter than the very flames of Chaos itself, more beautiful than even Evii'iliz herself, a gem radiant as suns, his eyes set upon the single greatest wonder in Infernus. And he whispered the words, "from our Great Devil, a gift for us, his heart that is the infernal radiance of his divine love."
— The Lost Heart (a myth on Sul'vul'narun)
Creation of the Heart
Before Infernus was illuminated by Sol'valun (The Infernal Sun), it was a plane of almost complete darkness. The only light that brought illumination to the realm was the Iish'olv'ren, The Grand Auroras that were created by the Ancients' fighting. And when the Iish'olv'ren had disappeared for the last time in an event known as En'zali'iir (Wonderous Limelight), it was said that
Zan'nal'takriin realized the concept that was the cycle of light and dark: day and night.
With the help of his Ancients,
Zan'nal'takriin created the first wonder of the Plane: Sol'valun, the Infernal Sun. It's said that when Sol'valun was completed it was the size of Levii’dinvii’an (Leviathan's) head. The Infernal Sun completed, it needed a place where it could illuminate the entire Plane.
In an act only a deity can do,
Zan'nal'takriin held Sol'valun in his hands, and cast with great power into the sky, the Infernal Sun. As it shot higher and higher, faster and faster, Sol'valun grew and grew. As Sol'valun ascended, it left a trail of great light and particles.
On a whim, after Sol'valun had traveled what was deemed an acceptable distance,
Zan'nal'takriin performed a feat that stunned even the Ancients. The Great Devil unfurled his wings and flew into the sky faster than even Sol'valun had until he caught up with the wonder. Then, a great shining that blinded everyone.
It's still unknown what
Zan'nal'takriin did or how, but the once "small" Sol'valun, in a great explosion of heat and light, became a giant star that lit the sky of Infernus.
Falling of the Heart
On the very first night of Infernus, in the city of Zatana'na nal Zanal'krii'tal, the Primordial Ancient Zatan'na saw a brilliant light racing down the night sky. The light raced until it collided with Infernus, a great bursting of dust and light some distance away from the city. Zatan'na, with curiosity, set out to find out what the light trail was, and when arrived closer to the location of the light's impact noticed a beam of light shooting into the sky.
When Zatan'na arrived at the location where the beam of light shot from, he came upon what was deemed the 2nd Wonder of Infernus: a large gem, made of an unknown material. When Zatan'na attempted to pick up the gem, he was burned by its brilliance. Zatan'na waited until the gem cooled, and he noticed when it cooled, the beam of light also disappeared. Instead, the gem gave off a slight faint radiance of heat. But more noticeably, the gem glowed and pulsed a light similar to the trail of light that Sol'valun had emitted during its ascension into the sky.
At that moment, Zatan'na realized the gem to have fallen from Sol'valun itself and gave unto it the name of Sol'vul'narun.
Myths of the Heart
It's unclear even in modern-times as to what happened to the gem. Unfortunately, after the Infernus Civil War, most records on the gem were destroyed and lost forever. The only surviving record of the heart is a painting by an unknown demon titled
"Infernal Radiance of Wonder." Aside from the surviving painting, the knowledge of the gem was passed down via word of mouth by those who survived the Civil War. However, the gem was never seen again, and legends surrounding it arose.
The most common myth surrounding Sol'vul'narun is that the gem still exists and that it holds a mysterious power from
Zan'nal'takriin himself, and that it is indestructible. It's also said that the gem will bring both great power and fortune to those who possess it.
Many believe that the heart is buried deep beneath the city of U'liis, where the first city in Infernus was founded. Thousands have tried to locate the gem and all have failed.
Others believe that when Zatan'na killed himself during the Civil War, that he perished with a force so great that he sent the Heart back to where it came from. In doing this it's believed that although Zatan'na couldn't win the war, that he decided to rob Infernus of its single greatest wonder, the heart never to grace demons again.
