Session 4: The Ballad of Arhead Holm Report
General Summary
Zarantyr 25th, 998
Sylrieth, after nearly two weeks of brooding, leaves his room to find Ulthis preparing for something in the great hall. The Elf asks the Mageborn what he's doing, to which the older man tells him that he is preparing to leave for Caelfall and asks Sylrieth to join him. Both men step through a portal which Ulthis created and were immediately transported to their destination. Upon arrival, Ingrannus tells Ulthis to give Sandy a vial which was revealed to have the ability to bring back one person back from the dead for 24 hours, though she did not seem to like the gift. As the party went into Caelfall, Ingrannus noticed the house for sale and left the party to continue to the Guild Office to accept another job listing, accepting a request to slay a group of Grungs who had been sturring up trouble on the roads.
The party arrives at the forest and after searching for the Grungs for a few hours, they come across their gathering place unnoticed. Fireheart and Sandy elect to hide in a group of bushes as Sylrieth and Sparhawk charge at the Grungs head-on. As the numbers dwindle, one particular Grung becomes confident and boastful, mocking the mistakes that the party makes in killing him. After every missed attack they launch at him, a high pitched laugh would erupt from the small and annoying creature until, finally, the killing blow is struck and he falls to the floor. As he lay dying, Sylrieth attempts to make his passing all the more painful by inimidating him, but it fails and it lets out one last mocking cry before finally passing. The last Grung, who had been ignored, awaits it's death by the hand of these rookie adventurers. Unfortunately, they continued to fail in attacking it, until one of the members fortunately strikes it down after it gave them some pitty filled glances. As it lay dying, it outstretched it's hand for some comfort in it's dying moments. Sparhawk tooks it's hand and leaned in to hear it's final words, which were continued mocking before quickly dying. The party agreed to never mention this again.
Olarune 1st, 998
Upon the party's arrival, Fireheart, Sandy, and Sparhawk decide to go turn the job in at the Guild office, while Sylrieth goes to the Inn to rest. After turning in the proof of kill needed to complete the mission, the trio sit at the tavern and begin to drink. As they are drinking and being merry, a man rushes into the office and runs over to Vedrer, telling him about a group of Bugbears, who have made the Byford Keep Ruins their home, have been attacking the towns of Arhead Holm and needs to create an urgent quest for the Guild. Hearing this, Sandy goes to the counter and offers to take care of the Bugbears for the Guild. Soon after, the party takes off toward the keep.
Olarune 7th, 998
The party arrives at the ruins and begins looking for clues to the Bugbears location, finding the tracks of seven Bugbears and one Bugbear chief leading down into the lower levels of the keep. After lighting some torches, the party enters the dark unknown of the basement of Byford Keep.
