Order of St Tara
The Order of St Tara is a holy paladin order of the Divinitst faith dedicated to St Tara, the only Aedrinarian to ever be declared a saint. Formally a crusading order, the Order of St Tara are devoted to hunting down aberrations and fiends throughout the North of Prima Terra and protecting the minority Divinitist population within the isles. Founded by the bosun of St Tara, Jorvar the Holy, the order aimed to continue his former master’s mission.
The order, although small, has a fierce reputation and controls the Holy Isle of St Tara in the Vanaheim Channel. The order are focused on holy war and protection, but are sworn to never harm another living being who does not threaten them. The Order is largely found on St Tara, but has small outposts throughout Aedrinar, most famously in Jameleska.
Jameleskan Order
The Jameleskan branch of the Order of St Tara is based in Palakirk and led by War Keeper Umska. This grizzled old veteran holds a barony title over Palakirk and considered important members of the local community and held in high regard by the Jameleskan nobility. Umska is a wise and mighty warrior with amongst the strongest abilities of any paladin. He is considered kind yet stern, and unlike other land owners in Jameleska he strives to provide enough resources for the local population. Umska oversees three paladins and has the aid of a seer and healer. Paladin Shor is the stereotypical paladin warrior. Honour bound, keen for a fight, and protective of the novices under him. Shor was declared missing in Endstarre of 1052, 3e, when trying to find the source of multiple portals to different planes. Shor was hunted by a Relentless Juggernaut that had escaped the Kobellesium, with his novices being slaughtered by the aspect of Loviatar. Shor was rescued and is currently acting as regent for Storbaer. Paldin Gayle is an air-genasi who was rescued by the order when they defeated a djinn slave-master who had tried to invade the Aedrinarian Isles. Gayle plays fast by the rules and considered to have a ‘creative’ reading of their oath. Yet Gayle has vanquished more fiends than any other member of the Jameleskan chapter. Paladin Thorn is a Goliath sharing a disconcerting similarity to the former member of Doomed 2 Die, Torgier †. Thorn was found as a baby in the hills by Umska, and is still a junior paladin but shows great strength and promise. Thorn introduced Umska to Doomed 2 Die after meeting them in the Rosethorpe bath house. The Jameleskan chapter is also served by anIce Elf seer called Nura, who has an eerie vision of the future aided by their use of the rare lilac rose which grows in the Caanian Peaks to the south of the duchy. Healer Shray joined the order when they arrived in Jameleska, they were formally part of the Three Spears tribe of Jotun goblins.Structure
The Order is a heavily centralised organization similar to a standing army. Their Holy-Jarl is based on St Tara in her cathedral and is promoted from the ranks of the war chiefs, the most powerful and oldest warriors in the order. War-Keepers often run their own small units of Paladins, usually taken between 2-5 under their command.
The Paladins are the officer class of the order, powerful and often given dangerous and important missions, they command the novices who seek training within the order. A Paladin is appointed by a warkeeper after proving themselves through combat and through spirit.
One who wishes to become a Novice must undergo a long period of fasting and meditation to prove they have the strength to join the order. After this, they must take their holy oath above a weapon they forge themselves.
History
The Order of St Tara was founded in the aftermath of Tara’s assecnsion by the remnants of her crew in order to continue her holy mission. Beginning as a small crusading order, the Paladins of St Tara would frequently travel through the isles vanquishing fiends and other planar creatures and routinely launched their own attacks into the elemental planes.
The order honoured the papal bull demanding a crusade in Seldrinar territory, and helped to drive the Seldrinar forces out of Gosca and even launched a daring raid on Seldros Prime. Although damaging the Seldrinar capital, the order was decimated by this attack and had to spend two more centuries rebuilding.
During this time of rebuilding, the order dedicated itself to protecting holy sites and pilgrims in Aedrinar, and helped to improve the relationship between the worshippers of the honoured gods and Divinitist in the isles, with St Tara also being considered an honorary member of the Aedrinarian pantheon.
In the last half of the third age, the Order has been re establishing their mission to hunt fiends and elementals, building sanctuaries and bases across the isles. There most famous outpost currently exists in Jameleska, where the order hold the bishopric of Palakirk.
