Personal history
Few men are born of miracles, but Caldus' story is one of very strange events. Caldus was born as Vahne Sterling in the land of Kimberly, although born is a strange word for it. his parents have been recounted as saying that one day, upon the falling of a star the night prior, they sought out the crater for rare minerals. Walking nearby, naked in a field, was a boy no older than five years, naked, cold, and starving. His skin was pale, his eyes a steely silver, and his hair white as fallen snow. They took this as a miracle from the Eternia, and sought to care for the boy as he came of age.
Except it took him far longer to come to age than their first born, who was only three. By the time Caldus' brother was 15, Caldus had barely grown into a young boy. And by the time Caldus' brother set off to shepherd with a different clan at 22, Caldus had only barely formed into a young man. Yet this was only physical, for Caldus' mind was sharper than anyone in their village. He knew things none had researched before: wolf pack tactics, defensive formation, knowing when tools were reaching their breaking point, knowing exact distances between locations down to the step. And his yearning for knowledge was profound, learning new skills within the passing of a week. This boy was something else.
It was said that when the United Domains came to seize their territory, the town was destroyed in a holy fire. None was left except for Caldus himself, naked once more, wreathed in flames from the fire he had wrought.
In time, Caldus the Orphan made his way to the south. He traveled through the various lands looking for a home, always ostracized for his strange appearance. He fell in line with a group of revolutionaries, and renowned for an innate sense of arcana he seemed to possess, they wielded him as a weapon. He was trained in his magical arts, although he needed little teaching, possession magic that far outclassed the best mages he met; he simply needed to be informed of his own power.
The revolutionaries set upon conquering their oppressive kingdom, promising to no longer be the slaves, but instead the masters. With Caldus as the point of a spear, they led the charge and burned down the castle. All seeing Caldus' greatness, imposed him as emperor, and he accepted the role, promising to rule over his followers with fairness, righteousness, and an iron fist. And so he did, as his close friends became olden and gray, weather worn and battle weary, until they all died. His followers constructed an 80 year project to build the Empire a grand palace. By the time it was built in the grand capital, all the builders, followers, and allies had died. And yet Caldus still remained, barely aging a day, still looking like a spry young lad of 18 years old.
Centuries passed, and he was undying. His raw power gave him credence as a force of divinity. People eventually began praising him as a god among men. And Caldus gladly accepted his fate. He was destined for more. A boy of star rocks, born of nothing, raised with nothing, now with supreme power, both physical and magical? He was a god.
That was until a secret organization attempted to assassinate him. They took to him during his grand addresses on the promenade of the Palace of Caldus, claiming he was a foul being upon this earth. Their duty was to slay him, and he was felled upon by warriors and mages who could flay entire platoons of soldiers with single movements. They pierced the Emperor with gem-tipped spears, pinning him to the ground. On the steps of the palace, the assassin's leader procured a glass dagger. The crowd, with horrified silence and baited breath, were about to witness the death of their Emperor.
And so he was born anew. Caldus to this day claims he remembers not what happened. But the city, burnt to the ground, did. Caldus formed into a dragon of fearsome strength. And epic battle erupted between the assassin's and the massive dragon. The fight laid waste to half the city. But when the fires were smote out, and the dust settled, the emperor was found, naked and alone, around the eviscerated bodies of his assailants, torn and chewed by a great beast.
What was Caldus? A man? A dragon? A god? He chose all these titles. He would rule this world himself if he had to. And with no enemies in his way, all that was left was a waiting game. In the next millennia of his life, he grew his empire following the Moon's Cry, advancing his Empire toward the destroyed lands of the United Domains. Now, he ponders his compatriots, ancient draconic gods who no longer exist on this plane, and how he might help his true family and allies regain the strength they have rightfully inherited upon Rakuen.
