Irenic Order of Avalon

The holy nation of dragons.

Structure

Avalon has an extremely complex structure of hierarchy. All people are noted by their names and titles at all times, and those names and the names of one's family denotes respect and reverence by others.   The nation is led by the Irenic Order, a group of nobles elected by name and meritocracy. The Irenic Order is headed by a Serene Protector - generally the king or queen - who has also been canonized as a saint after passing the Trials of Alexander. The Serene Protector's order is made of hand-chosen individuals, who are graced with new names and titles as servants, now seen as part of the Zwielicht Council. This council is charged with overseeing the country's affairs, namely maintaining the relations between the other noble houses. From there, each of the noble houses lays claim to a different province of the nation, and each overseas the familial houses under their care.   Meanwhile, the Order of Draconis operates side-by-side to the Irenic Order. Although they are not considered a part of government, they are a state-sponsored branch of religion. Their power often overlaps with the Irenic Order, and there is generally disregard to their actions so long as it serves the Irenic Order and keeps the peace.

Public Agenda

Keeping the peace, safety, and security of the people of Avalon.

History

The myth of Avalon is shrouded in secrecy, much like the society itself. It is said that long ago, upon the time of a great terror to the realm, the dragons collected their most loyal followers among mortals. They said to survive the coming strife, they must travel to a land of gods where the sun sets. These heroic pilgrims ventured forth across the great seas, ever westward. They encountered horrifying titans and terrible god-like beings along their way, eventually finding themselves on the seas of the country of Avalon, an unknown island to all of humanity. It is said that in courting the great dragon Alexander, it bestowed the land to them, and in an effort to protect these mortal for the rest of time, sealed the nation away with great magics only possible of a true dragon god.   Most Avalonian historians agree, however, that the nation as it is known now was established sometime within the third and fourth ages. It is said that the people who had spread out upon the hills in the provinces, who had warred with each other for territory and resources, eventually formed a peaceful union after a terrible civil war to claim the City of Alexandria. The government was relocated to Alexander to prevent future civil wars, making the city a safe space for all denominations. From there, each province consolidated themselves around each of the eight holy dragons.   In recent times, the nation has been fraught with with the lack of the Draconic gods. It is said that many usurpers and interlopers are spawned by the lack of the gods, and that the changing hands of new gods upon the realm creates more discord and chaos as time continues. After a treacherous civil war nearly 100 years ago, the Irenic Order was able to maintain its hold, but bad blood still runs through many of the families who lost much during the fighting.

Foreign Relations

Avalon maintains very few relations with foreign powers, partly because of the difficult in coming and going from Avalon itself, but also because of the disdain for other nations, who are seen as heretical.
