Niv-Mizzet
Hailed widely as the most intelligent being on Ravnica, and also the most arrogant, this ancient and temperamental dragon founded the Izzet League and still runs it to this day. The Firemind, one of the many grand titles that he is often referred to as, is 16,768 years old. He is an ancient red-brown true dragon, possibly the last alive, and is obsessed with omniscience. Despite his size, he is able to move lightly and gracefully. He has a twisting tail, long blue-fringed wings, a long neck, and jagged membranes around his head.
Overview
His intellect exceeds that of standard mortals by several echelons, and he is known for many ingenious inventions that currently serve the citizens of Ravnica; the most well known being the almost indestructible, yet easily usable and forgeable metal, Mizzium. Possessed of arrogance and vanity that matches his vast intellect and tremendous power, Niv-Mizzet has directed the research and experiments of the Izzet for more than 10,000 years, often from his private laboratory at the top of the Izzet Guildhall, Nivix.
Niv-Mizzet is extremely charismatic and intelligent, a combination that seems to draw the brightest and most volatile of Ravnica into his fold. If someone isn't put off by his arrogance or his eccentricity, they will most likely be smitten by his sheer intellect and inspired by his "Big Picture" attitude. Many who decry the Izzet League are quick to point out their leader's seemingly short attention span as he jumps from pet project to pet project on a weekly basis. Niv-Mizzet would argue that those who fail to see the League's glory in the first place have no chance of understanding his brilliant methodology.
Born some 6,000 years before the signing of the Guildpact , little is known about the Firemind’s early history; although his ancient hunting grounds are known to include part of Utvara. His first lair is supposedly located within the area. It is widely believed that the sheer knowledge and cunning of Niv-Mizzet is what allowed him to defeat all potential rivals and emerge as the last great dragon of Ravnica.
