Session Seven 1/16/24
General Summary
Characters Present: Darfin (Tim M), Zavania (Alyssa), Redla (Melissa), Kasari (Lou), Roland (Zack), & Finkelstein (Tim D)
After chatting with Elder Runara, the players learned that Sparkrender, their foe, is related to a blue dragon rival she defeated. The dragon's thwarted ritual is now Sparkrender's goal.
The group, with a new mission, left Elder Runara and headed to the tavern. There, they met Myla, the kobold they rescued before, who trades in blacksmith and tinkering goods. They traded with her, getting new armor and gear. Ready for what's next, the party set off on their journey.
Finkelstein would purchase Studded Leather, Zavania would get Scale Mail, & Kasari would purchase 3 two person tents.
Following Elder Runara's guidance, the party approached Tarak, the herbalist, at the local tavern. Tarak warmly greeted them and shared his knowledge of the Seagrow Caves. He explained his longstanding trade with the myconid colony residing in the cave, exchanging scraps of food and waste. Concerned about a recent communication breakdown with the myconids, Tarak sought the players' help in resolving the issue.
In a gesture of goodwill, the players were entrusted with a sack of old rotten food to present as a token of friendship to the myconids. Before embarking on their mission, Zavania inquired about the healing properties of mushrooms she had collected around the hot spring. Tarak confirmed their medicinal value, expressing his willingness to craft healing potions if provided with the mushrooms, promising the party a valuable resource for their upcoming endeavors.
Zavania, Finkelstein, & Redla had acquired these mushrooms and in total would give Tarak 12 heart cap mushrooms. Each character will receive 2 potions of healing after visiting Tarak.
Embarking on a boat journey to reach the Seagrow Caves, the party encountered a sudden assault by three merrows, including the infamous merrow extortionist seeking a sea tax. The boat teetered on the edge of flipping as the merrows attacked, sending all party members, except Redla, into the water. Roland, hurrying to join the fray, bravely leaped through thick vegetation and swiftly dispatched one of the merrows. Despite the initial chaos, the party successfully fended off the attackers and continued their journey toward the caves.
As they approached the cave entrance, two spore servant octopi, seemingly guarding the way, launched an attack. Darfin summoned the mighty owlbear, Christophonie, to aid in the fight. After defeating the octopi, the group ventured into the cave and engaged in a conversation with a myconid adult. Zavanie, offering the scrap sack of rotten food, facilitated a connection, leading the party to follow the myconid deeper into the cave.
The exploration revealed a vast fungal farm, with the fungus appearing sickly. Roland encountered and swiftly dispatched a violet fungus creature, causing panic among the myconids, who retreated further into the caves. Once calm was restored, the myconid guide resumed his initial intentions, leading the party to the sovereign of the colony. However, the sovereign lay seemingly lifeless on the ground, the cause of their ailment unknown.
In a simple dialect, the myconid requested the party's help in healing the sovereign and investigating the source of the blight afflicting the colony.
