Solaris the Dome & Solaris in the Sky

Due to it's very nature and those viewing it, Solaris existed in three forms:

• Solaris the Dome
• a conglomeration of material on the Realmspace crystal sphere which emanated yellow-white and blue-white light
• it was noted on various star charts used by Spelljamming species
• once reached, a dome was visible embedded within the rock of that material
Solaris the Sun
• the light source on the outside of the dome as viewed by the inhabitants within the dome
• to those inhabitants, it was viewed as a light-giving sun and moon mechanic on other planets
Solaris the Deity
• said to be an avatar of the light source which for a time walked among the inhabitants of the dome

Geography

Solaris, the Dome

During primordial history, as the planets of the Realmspace crystal sphere were being formed, a rogue celestial body spun free a large quantity of elemental material which smashed into the inner surface of the sphere. Rock, ice, and many other components of potential life were clustered in this lump of material and were left undisturbed as the planets and their civilizations grew.
Several centuries ago, an artificial dome was erected in the center of the mass of elemental material. Within that dome, the ice was thawed and purified, a landmass was fashioned, and a habitat was developed to accommodate several sentient species and various flora and fauna.

Solaris, the Sun

The mass of material lay hidden again for a few hundred years until an external light source abruptly appeared on the external surface of the dome, drawing the attention of the few spelljamming races of that period. The light oscillated between a bright yellow-white light and a much dimmer blue-white light. The appearance of the light source to the denizens within the dome caused widespread panic and fear initially, but change soon afterward to reverence and worship when an avatar of the sun appeared to the people and walked among them.

Solaris the Deity

A being regarded as in incarnation of the yellow-white light named itself as Solaris appeared on the land before the people. The being blessed the earth within the dome, enriching it, showing the people how to cultivate crops, and inspiring them with their own independence and worth.
With the events and wars of The Blood Years, Solaris disappeared from the Solaran landscape and has not been seen in his physical form among the people since. While the wars continued to rage, his worshipers still took solace of a solar cycle of rising and setting "sun" each day with seasons throughout the year.

Back on the Surface

It is unknown what spelljamming race first ventured up close and personal to the dome, but it was widely spread around the charting community to be named Solaris. How they also came to know Solaris (the dome) versus Solaris the deity was also unknown.

Fauna & Flora

The habitat within the dome became known as Solara. They named their land after reverence for the deity Solaris which operated as sunlight for them within the dome. The interior contained several sentient species and a few unique races of flora and fauna on the land and in the sea surrounding the landmass.

The outer rock encircling the dome was approximately 200 miles in diameter, with the dome's peak being about 150 miles off the surface of the crystal sphere. The dome itself was only about 100 miles in circumference.
