Blood Dragonflight
Culture
Culture and cultural heritage
Despite a reputation for being well outside the social norms of other dragons, blood dragons are typically quite amicable and friendly to others, willing to share and learn from the ideals of others. Their extremely strong moral codes for honoring the bonds of allies has allowed for massive cultural exchange between them and Vampires, particularly with the sharing and experimentation of magic.
Blood dragons are among the few flights to not only be vocal about their association with many gods, such as Satari, but openly participate in the culture of the divine. It is not uncommon to see blood dragons participate in divine holidays and festivities, bring their own offerings to gods whose own ideals align with their own, and on occasion, create monuments and shrines very similar to those of mortals.
Shared customary codes and values
The Blood Dragonflight is by far one of the oldest on Terra, retaining many customs that other dragonflights have long since abandoned. They have a strong cultural importance to bloodlines and the connections between families, honoring one's allies.
Average technological level
The Blood Flight works in tandem with other races frequently, most notably vampires, allowing them to share and advance their own technology to a great degree via cooperation. They are at the forefront of medical technology, having developed a vast degree of spells and technological advances to the field and in growing blood and tissue samples along with putting a vast importance on vaccination and the study of disease and genetic mutations.
Common Etiquette rules
The Blood Dragonflight follow the typical etiquette of all dragons, where looking them directly in the eye is seen as a challenge or a threat. Blood dragons typically are much more cautious when it comes to bodily contact, avoiding it with not only each other, but other groups as well, as among them it is seen as a much more intimate affair.
Common Dress code
What is perhaps best known about the Blood Dragonflight is their manner of dress- their clothing is often made from ritualistically harvested parts from their kills, fallen comrades, and enemies alike as a badge of honor and status. Among other dragons this is commonly seen as a negative trait, but demonstrates the widespread knowledge of crafting and garment making among the flight along with their unique approaches to funerary rites. Among blood dragons, for one's hide to one day be incorporated into another's clothing is seen not as disrespect or demoting that individual to common clothing, but a way for them to continue living and with purpose, very similar to the ideals found in the gods, who have a similar practice.
In times of war, blood dragons will ritualistically wound themselves, often on the tail or wing webbing, and paint their bodies with their own blood as a form of war paint, and heal the wound they caused.
Funerary and Memorial customs
Like all dragons, the blood flight performs funerary cannibalism. Upon the death of a dragon, the corpse is butchered as soon as possible and consumed, thought to give their power to those who take part. Bones, tissue, and scales from the body are used to craft armor and clothing and worn as regular attire, with the skulls of their fallen used as shelter for their nests and dwellings.
Common Taboos
Blood dragons waste nothing from a kill, utilizing all parts of a carcass as quickly as possible. It is thought that the cultural norm of funerary cannibalism among dragons was started with their flight. Unlike other flights, blood dragons to not return the tongue of their fallen kin to their birthplace, what can be considered a disgrace among dragons, instead using it to craft the nests of their descendants.
It is considered extremely rude and unbecoming to be harsh or discriminatory to others among the blood flight, with most of them embracing the differences of others with open arms. Blood dragons view bigotry of the other flights as a personal failure of the individual, and shun those who take part in it from their society. They are often in close ties with Vampires due to shared ideals.
As all blood is considered highly sacred, the blood flight views spilling it unnecessarily akin to a sin.
Common Myths and Legends
Culturally, most blood dragons believe that their flight was created and born from the blood spilled by the other dragonflights- that during one of the wars, the first true dragon of the blood flight was born when a hatchling as bathed in what remained after battle and deserters from the other flights came together to raise the orphan.
