Blood Eagle

The Blood Eagle is a rarely performed ritual of the Veld, a method of execution for only the most heinous of crimes performed by high-status individuals. This ritual is only performed on Members of Noble families, Elite Warriors, the Chosen of the Gods or similar. One may only be sentenced to the Blood Eagle if from one of these groups and if one has committed some of the most grievous crimes among the Veldfolk ; The Murder of Ones Parents, Treason against Ones Jarl , or in rare cases treason against the Gods, though this last is very rarely done as it is considered not the place of Mortals to provide over divine justice. In the ritual the condemned is brought forth, their arms lashed to two posts, usually on a platform so they can be witnessed by all assembled. The main ritual participant, who is usually either the local Jarl, or sometimes the person most directly effected by the ritual, will approach from behind with a knife. The Knife is used to expose the ribs at the back, cutting into the flesh, then a powerful pair of shears is used to cut the ribs one by one from the spine. When this is done the victims lungs are removed and slung over their shoulders. By this time the victim is most likely dead. Should the victim pass out and or die without screaming, they are considered to have atoned for their crime and, if they were otherwise in good standing, have a promised seat in Valhalla. If they scream or beg for mercy however, they are condemned to Hel's realm.
