Jarl

The Title of Jarl is one of the highest within The Veld , second only to King. Jarl's serve as Judges on legal matters, as Officiants at Religious Ceremonies, and as Military leaders in matters of War. They rule, dispense justice, dispose of the loot from raids and are honoured as the highest rulers of their community. The Position of Jarl is not strictly hereditary. While it is often the case that a Man's Son(or in some instances Daughter) will become Jarl after he dies, they must be acclaimed by the community. Sometimes multiple claiments will emerge and the community with either work out a consensus, or their will be conflict, or perhaps a split with two Jarls emerging from this conflict. Because of this, and the fluidic nature of War within the Veld, the domains of the Jarls are always in fluctuation.
