2022/02/16: Visit to Trophium Report

General Summary

Knight, Sith, Sunderfury, Malakai, Ruby, Buzz, Voren   The Shadows of Existence (including some new recruits) are finally making their way to Shisui. They’re making a detour to Trophium first to talk to the Black Samurai.   The Black Samurai had already left for Shisui, as apparently there were terrible news of some sort. He left a contact behind, who gave us the news.   A group of thugs tried to lure us into an alleyway to “talk to their boss”. With some gestures from our guide, we decided they were planning to jump us in an alley, so we killed all of them. The little girl who was acting as a guide for us “borrowed” Malakai’s Evil Sword partway through the fight in an attempt to help and/or defend herself, but it possessed her and took some effort to get away from her. We ended up taking her with us because there were lingering effects and she suspected the rest of the organization would try to kill her if she stayed. The fact that she was able to use the Evil Sword without being cursed suggests she may be an artificer, so Malakai may be taking her on as an apprentice.   Notes from Doyle:
1. A lot more militarized than he remembered. Not as much creative freedom.
2. There are major issues in the imperial capital.
3. Racism as a unifying/dividing rhetoric point.
4. Faith in the emperor has gone down rapidly of late. Many spiritfolk in the capital have been driven out. (Like if all angels and celestial types fled Alvidar, which is not a good sign.) Orders from the capital have been getting increasingly bizarre.
5. Factionalism and civil war are becoming more likely, as regional lords increasingly question the central rule.
6. There are rumors of rebellion led by the Black Samurai. Very little open warfare so far, as the Black Samurai has been diplomatic with the regional lords.
7. Doyle primarily in disguise as a little wart-nosed fortune teller who’s into numerology disguised as magic.
8. Last note: Doyle is heading for the capital, and if we don’t get further notes that’s a bad sign.
9. The south is openly welcoming the Black Samurai’s rebellion, while the other regional lords are only conditionally loyal to the emperor.
10. Before all this started, a tall, blond, good-looking foreigner tried to break in to see the emperor, failed, and was arrested. He was promising all sorts of crazy things to anyone who would listen. (Clearly Ehel, the source of the Corruption in the area.) No mention of what happened to him.
